Craniosacral Therapy

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, light-touch modality that boosts the function

of the body’s central nervous system (CNS) and helps regulate movement of the

cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Often there are areas of longstanding tension or

restriction within the deep connective tissues that hinder the natural rhythm and

flow of CSF, which nourishes the cells. This deep restriction may manifest as

stiffness, pain or other ailments. A therapist trained in CST can feel and gently

encourage the release of, these deeper areas of tension that can be difficult to

address through traditional massage therapy.

Who is Craniosacral Therapy for?

CST can be beneficial for just about anyone and especially for persistent issues. CST is used for headaches, concussions, TMJ/jaw pain, digestion or sleep difficulties, trauma or stress. A variety of goals, concerns or conditions can be addressed with the use of CST. Anyone looking to increase their physical, emotional or mental wellbeing can benefit from CST.

What happens during a Craniosacral Therapy treatment?

The therapist will use gentle touch to feel restrictions in the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid that moves throughout the body. With the therapist allowing the fluid to ebb and encouraging it to flow, the client may notice a loosening or “unwinding” of tensions long held in the body. The therapist will be guided by the fluid to create gentle pressure in specific areas to encourage the release in and relaxation of the deep tissues.
