Massage Therapy

What is Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy is a manual, hands-on style treatment that includes the assessment

and treatment of the soft tissues of the body. These include connective tissue, muscles, tendons,

ligaments and joints. Massage therapists are trained to assess and manipulate these soft tissues in

order to relieve pain, improve function and enhance mobility in order to increase the overall

health of the body. There are many different techniques that fall under the ‘Massage Therapy’

umbrella that therapists may use during treatments including: deep tissue, myofascial, lymphatic

and Swedish. Depending on the goals you discuss with your therapist and the history of you and

your body, these techniques may be applied in a variety of ways that are appropriate for your

body’s needs.

What are appointments like?

The aim of massage therapy is to help each person achieve their own goals for their body. And because of this, what works for one person may not be effective for another. Prior to your appointment we will sit down with you to discuss what brings you to us and take a detailed health history. This will give your treatments focus. Throughout your treatment your therapist will check in with you regarding the type and amount of pressure, making any adjustments necessary to ensure your comfort.

What should I wear?

Whatever is most comfortable! Often you will be asked to undress “to your comfort level,” but this can mean anything from fully dressed to completely undressed. In either case you will be fully covered by both a blanket and a sheet during your treatment. Your therapist will uncover sections (such as your back or a leg) one at a time, securing the sheets so that you are covered and comfortable at all times.
